Gastroscopy and Endoscopy
Gastroscopy is the process of visualizing your horses stomach using a 3m flexible video endoscope, this is useful in the diagnosis of gastric ulceration and gastric impactions. This procedure is performed under light sedation and can be carried out at your yard or at the clinic.
Signs of Gastric ulceration:
After scoping, our vets will decide on an appropriate treatment course depending on the location and severity of the ulcers. The initial treatment course normally lasts 4-6 weeks and after this we will rescope your horse. A key part of ulcer treatment is the continued management and feed changes.

- Reduced performance
- Weight Loss
- Poor coat
- Difficulties tack up, unhappy brushing
- Change in behavior
- Repeated bouts of colic

Endoscopy

- Guttural pouch washes
- Visual analysis of the larynx and soft pallet

- Tracheal Washes and Broncho-alveolar lavage
